Abstract

This work addresses the political communication of the Spanish government during the COVID-19 crisis in a comparative perspective. In the first place, this study identifies the unique aspects of health crises within political crises and their specific aspects in the field of political communication and develops the “checklist” of aspects involved in it in the different phases of the crisis: latency, appearance, explosion and synthesis. The format of public appearances, the role of experts and open political debates during the crisis are analyzed. Finally, the study also evaluates the effect of the management and communication of the crisis on the popularity of the Executive.
