The Galician language in the Statute of Autonomy of Castilla y León

Esther Seijas Villadangos
Abstract

This essay deals with the statutory reception of the Galician language in the Statute of Autonomy of Castile and León. To do so, it redefines the theoretical framework on which the regulation of the linguistic heritage of an Autonomous Community is built, highlighting the importance of a new referent such as extraterritoriality, as opposed to the traditional requirement of being based in the respective Autonomous Community. The two most latent repercussions of this will be analysed, described on the basis of the tension between cooperative autonomism versus competitive autonomism.
